And the last reason I love painting with oil paints….Painting with oil paints is real painting. It’s a proper way to paint that says you are passionate about your art , that you’ve spent time learning the technicalities and invested time and money in what you’re doing.
When people ask me what I do, I say “I’m an artist, a painter” with pride. Then I go on to share a bit about my seaside series, and mention dogs too, because they have to get a mention! So I explain that I paint in oil paint and try to communicate the absolute joy of the medium and why I love it so much, how it is the best way for me to express the ideas in my head, and how there’s a long honourable tradition of oil painting.
Are people impressed? Hard to tell, and after all is it important to the person who sees a painting how it’s painted?
There are more questions than answers, but all I can say is I absolutely love oil paints.
